Two years on from investing in their first component collector, the successful performance of the DPH1200 Disc model led to Irvin GQ approaching J&S Engineering to add to their ‘collection’. This resulted in the historic company placing an order for two Rotary model component collectors from us to add further efficiency to their factory set up.
It's been exciting to reconnect with such an innovative company, who design & manufacture parachutes & aerial delivery systems. Originally established in 1919, this world leading UK company run a number of Star CNC lathes at their manufacturing site near Bridgend in Wales. Last month J&S Engineering delivered & installed 2 new RPH600 parts accumulators to collect finished parts directly from their Star SD-26 type E & SX-38 type A sliding head lathes to further enhance their production.
Both new machines for Irvine GQ are 6-bucket collectors, but other bucket combinations are available on all sizes of RPH models depending on the set-up required for the components being machined. They enable the lathes to run unmanned for lights out machining and to ensure the critical surface finishes of their components are maintained.
The unique oil drain-back feature of all component collectors is designed to enable the reclamation of this resource for immediate reuse back into the lathes - a fantastic way to save money & implement a sustainability initiative simultaneously. Oil from the parts collected in the buckets drains to a central point where it is then piped back into the Star machines.
The manufacturer will continue to benefit from reduced costs through the reuse of oil, while further demonstrating their commitment to environmental responsibility.
