J&S Engineering and Star Micronics: CNC Parts Handling Solutions

As a technical partner to Star Micronics, J&S Engineering supplies the automatic lathe manufacturer with component collection technology that we design and manufacture in the UK for direct connection with their machines.

Earlier this year we supported Star with RPH600 parts separators for two new CNC sliding head lathes, each one helping to boost the productivity of those new machine investments.

CNC turned parts company Wigpool in Redditch, added to their machine shop with investment in a Star SR-10 J type C to increase their manufacturing capacity for customers in a variety of sectors.

R E Thompson in Andover were investing in their first Star with a SR-20R IV type E lathe. A precision engineering company for over 75 years with a varied customer base across multiple industries.

Both new RPH600 machines are 12-bucket collectors, but customers can choose from other bucket combinations on all sizes of RPH models depending on the set-up required for the components being machined.

Improving CNC Lathe Productivity with Parts Accumulation

The integration of a parts accumulator crucially provides machined components manufacturers with the ability to fully harness the capability of their CNC lathe for unmanned ‘lights out’ production. The critical surface finishes of their components are also maintained as part of the process alongside more manageable inspection.

Oil Reclamation and Sustainable CNC Parts Handling

The unique oil drain-back feature of all component collectors in the J&S range enables the reclamation of this resource for immediate reuse back into the lathes. This provides a fantastic way for manufacturers to save money & implement a sustainability initiative simultaneously. Oil from the parts collected in the buckets drains to a central point where the system then pipes it back into the Star machines. Both manufacturers will benefit from reduced costs through the reuse of their oil, while further demonstrating their commitment to environmental responsibility.
